The old beds wrapping around this Portage home had run their course. Overgrown, outdated, and just not doing the property any favors. The homeowners wanted something fresh - low maintenance, clean lines, and plants that would actually hold up long term. That's exactly what we set out to deliver.
We started from scratch. Every bed got cleared out, re-shaped, and fitted with metal edging to lock in a hard, defined border between the lawn and the planting areas. Metal edging is one of those details that makes a big difference over time - it keeps rock from migrating into the grass and gives the whole design a finished look that holds up season after season.
For the ground cover, we went with river rock throughout. It reads clean, it drains well, and it cuts down on the ongoing maintenance compared to mulch. Paired with the metal edging, the beds have a really structured, intentional look - the kind that actually holds up and doesn't need to be redone every spring.
All the plants are brand new. Boxwoods, tall ornamental grasses, and a few other varieties placed throughout the beds to give the design some layering and movement. Young plants like these will fill in nicely and really take ownership of the space over the next couple of growing seasons.
This one had some extra meaning for us. These homeowners are retired from Pawpaw Rentals and genuinely helped us get off the ground with equipment early on in our journey. Getting to do their landscaping now is something we don't take lightly. This is exactly the kind of work we love doing - and doing it for people who believed in us early on makes it that much better.
